    Our Parish Community

    Welcome to Christ The King!

We are multi-generational, multi-ethnic, and from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

Wherever you are in your life, you will find at Christ the King a warm, vibrant community of about 1,400 families where you can deepen your conversion and life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, allowing Him to love you, heal you and set you on fire to joyfully accomplish His saving mission.

We are committed to being a Eucharistic parish - a community that finds its source and center in Jesus Christ, truly present among us in the Blessed Sacrament. He unites us. He animates and directs all of our efforts at evangelization, education and serving those in need.

We are also part of the Amazing Parish movement, cultivating a culture of unceasing prayer, healthy teamwork and active discipleship throughout the parish.

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved here at CTK - formation programs, works of mercy, serving in the Sacred Liturgy and more.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

    Our Mission

Christ the King is a Eucharistic parish, centered in Christ and animated by the Holy Spirit to build God's Kingdom through Divine Worship, Prayer, Evangelization, Catholic Education and the Works of Mercy.

    Our Crest

The symbolism of the logo is deeply rooted in our Catholic artistic heritage. The overall heraldic design conveys tradition and majesty. The shield symbolizes faith (Eph. 6:16).

The five dominant images of the shield, taken from Creation and Redemption, are expressive of Jesus Christ the King. They are the rising sun, the blue starry heavens, the Holy Scriptures, the Cross, and the rising monstrance revealing the Holy Eucharist.

The rising sun of the dawn, evocative of the Messianic “sun of justice” (Mal. 4:2), symbolizes the Resurrection and the Lordship of Jesus Christ over all. He is the one and only Savior and Lord of the universe. It also represents the dawn of His Kingdom breaking into the world. Green, one of the colors of Holy Spirit, connotes life, bountifulness, growth and hope.

In Christian iconography, the blue starry heavens symbolizes the Mother of the King, Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary (Rev. 12:1). This image makes an explicit connection to the heraldic shield of the Archdiocese of Portland and Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, who is the patroness of the Archdiocese of Portland. The parish and school exist only in communion with our local Archbishop and the universal Church.

The Holy Scriptures show the centrality of the written Word of God, source of all knowledge and wisdom, which reveals Jesus Christ, forms us into His disciples and leads us to His Kingdom.

Rising up from the bottom of the shield is the Holy Eucharist in the monstrance. Jesus Christ the King comes to us here and now in His Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament. The color gold connotes royalty and the divine life. Our parish strives to be a Eucharistic parish, centered on Jesus truly present in the Holy Eucharist. The design of the monstrance is taken from our own parish monstrance.

At the top of the monstrance, placed at the very center of the shield is the Cross. Jesus Christ inaugurated His Kingship and His Kingdom from His Cross, which the axis of all that exists, revealing Divine Love and communicating the Divine Life to all who believe. The cross unifies the images of rising sun and the rising Eucharist, as well as the Holy Scriptures and Holy Eucharist. The union of the rising sun and the rising Eucharist show the unity of creation and redemption, of faith and reason. The union of Holy Scripture and the Holy Eucharist show the inner unity of word and sacrament.

    Meet Our Pastor

“It is a joy to be pastor here at Christ the King.
Together we can be a Eucharistic Parish!"

Monsignor John Cihak was raised in a large family on the outskirts of Corvallis, Oregon. He has a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame and earned a Licentiate in Fundamental Theology and Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome.

He is the author of Balthasar and Anxiety (T&T Clark, 2009), co-author of The Catholic Guide to Depression (Sophia Institute, 2012), the editor of Charles Borromeo: Selected Orations, Homilies and Other Writings (Bloomsbury, 2017), and several articles in theology and catechesis.

He has served in several parishes throughout the Archdicoese and has held teaching positions at Mount Angel Seminary and the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was also a theological consultant for the Spirit of Truth K-8 catechetical curriculum (Sophia Institute Press), which we use in our parish school.

Prior to his arrival to Christ the King Parish in July 2018, he served at the Vatican as an official of the Congregation for Bishops and as a Papal Master of Ceremonies for Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.

In addition to his duties at Christ the King, he serves as the Archdiocesan Director of Continuing Education of Clergy.

    Our History

In 1958, a mission of St. John the Baptist parish called "Christ the King Mission" was established due to the growing local Catholic population.

Initially, the congregation met in an unused school room in the "Old Harmony School Building", near the site of the current church building.

The next year (1959) the parish, formally titled "Our Lord Jesus Christ The King" was canonically erected, and plans for a permanent (and larger) church building were underway. There were 83 families at the first mass of "Christ The King Parish."

The new church structure was completed in 1960. It is currently being used as the gym for the CTK school.

As the community expanded, another new church was planned. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on  Sunday May 20, 1979, and the church was dedicated on April 15th, 1980.
