A special treat for the soul at our regular 11am Sunday Mass is coming on July 16th. Some of our cantors will sing the William Byrd setting of the Mass for four voices, a choral version for some of the regular prayers. This musical offering is for the glory of God and to support our own prayer and devotion during the Mass. William Byrd was a Catholic composer who lived during the English Reformation. He was suspected of being a secret Catholic, but was protected by Queen Elizabeth I because he wrote and produced music for the royal court. This Mass setting was published secretly in London around 1592.
