The good news of the Gospel is a story to be told, a story to be celebrated, a story to be lived and a story to be passed on. We recognize and affirm that parents who are seeking out Faith Formation for their family are drawn to the good news of the Gospel and desire to partake in it. Moreover, there is a deeper reality that Jesus is calling their family to draw near in relationship to the God who loves them.
Parents have a beautiful and indispensable resonsibility to guide their children towards a transformative relationship with Jesus Christ, who is the fulfillment of man's greatest aspirations. God designed the family in such a way that parents are the primary means by which children first come to know God and His Love, in order to prepare them for Heaven. Parents are the experts of their own children and therefore know how they best receive love and knowledge. It should also be said that studies have shown, parental involvement in the faith-life of their child is the most important element in ensuring that a child develops into a practicing Christian.
The vision for family catechesis at Christ the King, then, is that parents will guide their children to the goal of Heaven in the classroom of life, called the home. However, They are not expected to do this in isolation. Catholics are faced with cultural, political, and moral dilemmas that can challenge the strength of their faith, and they need the guidance and intercession of the community of saints around them, to help them raise godly children.
A Family of Faith provides a space and structure for families to build community and celebrate Catholic life together through common prayer, service to others, social activities, and liturgical celebrations. Parents will be supported in building strong Catholic families where children learn the joys of following Jesus Christ through the witness of Christian life given by their parents.
A Family of faith runs on a four-year cycle, in which each yearly cycles focuses on one of the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: 1) The Creed, 2) The Sacraments, 3) Life in Christ, and 4) Christian Prayer. This year's cycle is on the Sacraments. The model is designed to be well-organized, yet sufficiently flexible to accomodate for busy schedules. We will begin classes in October. We hope to see your family make this commitment and join us. You belong here!
