The Way

- Formation

The Way accepts new members year round.

Whether you were baptized Catholic and did not receive adequate instruction on the faith, or you are a strong non-Catholic Christian who would like to explore Catholicism for the first time, or you are from other non-Christian belief systems, or you have never prayed a day in your life, The Way will meet you where you are in your search for Truth and journey with you closer to the heart of Jesus and His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

At the sessions, we discuss the teachings and practices of the Catholic faith in a welcoming and open atmosphere to facilitate authentic discussions about our faith, provide opportunities for fellowship, and prepare those interested in receiving the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil (Baptism and/or Communion and Confirmation).
These sessions also help you find a place in our parish community, and develop a rich prayer life and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.

Duration of The Way
- If you are seeking full Communion into the Catholic Church, the typical time frame is approximately two years with year-round enrollment which begins your two year time frame.
- The duration can potentially be more or less time depending on previous formation, Bible literacy and individual circumstances.
Details
- In the Winter/Spring we meet Tuesday evenings at 6:45 pm - 8:15 pm in the Parish Center
- We do not meet on Holidays or during School Breaks.
- In the Fall (September - December) we transition to Wednesday evenings at 6-8 pm for our Alpha Course. All participants of The Way are required to attend the Alpha Course. It is an integral part of learning more about the faith. There will not be a Tuesday evening program while Alpha is running.
The process of becoming Catholic

The program we call The Way is also called OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults). It is the official process of the Catholic Church which gradually introduces Catholic practices and beliefs to those who are seeking information or those that desire to enter fully into the Catholic Faith.
We have skilled catechists, volunteers and sponsors who are ready to walk this journey of faith with you!

FIRST STEP: SIGN UP AND INITIAL CONVERSATION

For those interested in learning more and potentially joining The Way, go ahead and fill out the Intake Form. The Director of Evangelization or the Pastor will reach out to you for an initial conversation. This helps us to get to know you better, it gives us a chance to hear your faith journey and answer any questions you may have about the program or becoming Catholic.

INQUIRY

This first stage is an opportunity for anyone looking to learn more about the Catholic Faith, to hear Christ proclaimed, ask questions, share your experiences and begin to feel at home here at Christ the King Parish. This period can last as long as the individual desires. This period ends when the individual decides they are ready to participate in the Rite of Acceptance.

CATECHUMENATE
You officially enter into this stage with a special ceremony called the Rite of Acceptance. At this point in the journey, you have become firm in your desire to continue and you will begin formal study of the teachings and practices of the Catholic Church.

PURIFICATION AND ENLIGHTENMENT
This stage begins the First Sunday of Lent of your second year in The Way. The Rite of Election marks the Church's formal affirmation of your readiness for the sacrament of Christian initiation. You now enter the Period of Enlightenment and Purification during Lent and it is a time of intense prayer as you prepare to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

MYSTAGOGY
In the second year of formation, on Holy Saturday when the Church assembles for the Easter Vigil you will be baptized (if not already), Confirmed, and receive Holy Communion. Mystagogy is the time between Easter and Pentecost-it is a time to reflect on the unfolding of the power of the Sacraments in your life.

NEOPHYTE
This is your first year as a Catholic. You are encouraged to remain with The Way to help you integrate into the life of the Church.

Sponsors are people who help those who are seeking to become Catholic. They have 3 main duties:
1. Get to know the candidate
2. Assist the candidate
3. Stand up for the candidate as a witness
You don't have to know all the answers, you simply need to be willing to listen to your candidate with a non-judgmental ear, be a friend in faith to them, and be a good ambassador of Christ. All of the questions concerning doctrines and specific teachings of the Church can be answered by our teaching team.
